About the deck

This 85-card deck and accompanying guidebook will help you deepen your connection to different forms of power through activities and reflections that you can do on your own and with others.

Cultivating our power is an essential developmental process.

Our default setting out of the womb is one of survival. We develop many protective strategies to make sure that we can simply stay alive and are cared for by our families and communities. This survival orientation is inherently fear-based, which makes us particularly susceptible to enacting forms of power-over others in order to feel safe within ourselves. When driven by fear, we tend to look to gain safety, status, and power for ourselves with little regard for the impact on those around us. Ironically, fear-based orientations tend to lead to social loneliness, shaming behavior, and fragility.

Of course, that’s not the full picture. As humans, we also have the innate capacity for love, joy, and connection. We are born deeply dependent on others and in need of social connection for our nervous systems to feel regulated. We need one another to survive and to live fulfilling lives.

The Ripple Deck is intended to help facilitate the transition from a fear-based orientation to one of safety, connection, and healing. Enhancing our capacity for love and connection, including for ourselves, has an innate healing power. As we reclaim and cultivate these forms of power, we develop more awareness and a greater sense of inner stability, calm, and well-being.

But our power can be hard to see on our own.

The Ripple Deck is a tool to help you reflect and deepen your understanding of the power you already have and grow the forms of power that you want to develop. We encourage you to use it with friends, colleagues, and family so that you can mirror and enhance these forms of power with one another.

By reshaping the concept of power to include both our individual well-being and our social context, we hope to reclaim our power for a more equitable and just world where everyone can thrive. May it have a positive ripple effect in your life, your community, and in our world.

It starts with understanding of your own innate power.

The Ripple Deck came about when Steph was reflecting on ways she was holding herself back, curious how to move away from self-sabotage and towards her power.

But she realized that the premise of the inquiry was off: it was coming from a deep place of not being enough.

Sharing this with Natalie over coffee, this challenge emerged: what if we had a tool to support us to recognize, cultivate and grow the innate powers within us rather than strive for more to feel like we’re enough?

We couldn’t find such a tool, so we decided to make it.

Both coaches by profession, we built this deck with our coachees in mind. Many of us suffer from an intense amount of internal suffering. We regularly hear our clients wanting more confidence and sense of agency but assuming it comes from emulating others instead of developing it from within. We see leaders that want to find new ways to lead but don’t yet understand the transformative impact of cultivating power with others rather than power over them. We see overwhelmed overachievers burning out and unable to tap into more sustainable and integrated ways of being. Does it have to be this way?

This deck aims to support an inquiry process: what does an empowered you look like, how does an empowered us behave, and how can we develop both for the benefit of all?

Whether you’re looking to cultivate your power, connect with friends, or find a resource to use with your clients, this deck is a call for us all to rethink how we view power.

The Ripple Deck launched as a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2023 and is now available for purchase.
